Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will create a colorful pompom Christmas tree using glue and precut tree shapes. This activity will help develop fine motor skills, creativity, and an understanding of holiday themes.
Materials and Prep
- Precut Christmas tree shapes (made from green construction paper)
- Colorful pompoms (various sizes)
- Glue (preferably a child-safe glue stick or liquid glue)
- Paper towels or a smock (to protect clothes)
Before the lesson, prepare a clean workspace and ensure all materials are within reach. Explain to the student that they will be decorating a Christmas tree with colorful pompoms!
Activities
-
Pompom Sorting:
Start by sorting the pompoms by color or size. This will help the student recognize different colors and improve their sorting skills.
-
Tree Decoration:
Guide the student in applying glue to the tree shape and sticking the pompoms onto the tree. Encourage them to use different colors and patterns!
-
Story Time:
Read a short Christmas story or sing a holiday song while decorating. This will make the activity more festive and enjoyable.
-
Show and Tell:
Once the tree is decorated, let the student share their creation. Ask them to describe their favorite pompom or color used.
