Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to communicate their ideas about pictures and different kinds of artworks. They will learn how to express what they see, feel, and think about their own creations and those of others.
Materials and Prep
- Paper (any kind)
- Crayons or colored pencils
- Markers (optional)
- Access to a few different pictures of artwork (can be printed or displayed on a screen)
- Comfortable space to create art and talk about it
Before the lesson, gather a variety of pictures of artworks from different styles and artists to show the student. Ensure the space is ready for drawing and discussing comfortably.
Activities
-
Art Exploration: Show the student different pictures of artworks. Ask them to choose their favorite and describe what they see. Encourage them to talk about colors, shapes, and feelings.
-
My Own Masterpiece: Give the student paper and crayons. Ask them to create their own artwork. Once finished, they will explain their artwork to you, sharing what it is and how it makes them feel.
-
Art Gallery Walk: Create a mini art gallery at home. Display their artwork and the pictures you showed them. Walk around together and talk about each piece, asking questions and sharing thoughts.
Talking Points
- "What colors do you see in this picture? Can you name them?"
- "How does this artwork make you feel? Happy, sad, or something else?"
- "What do you think the artist was trying to show us?"
- "Now that you've made your own art, can you tell me about it? What is happening in your picture?"
- "If you could give your artwork a title, what would it be?"
