Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to communicate their ideas about pictures and other kinds of artworks through drawing and storytelling. They will express their thoughts and feelings about art in a fun and creative way!
Materials and Prep
- Blank paper
- Crayons or colored pencils
- Markers (if available)
- A quiet space to create art
- A comfortable spot to sit and talk about art
Before the lesson, make sure the student is comfortable and has a clear space to work. You can also gather some examples of simple pictures (like animals, trees, or houses) to inspire their creations.
Activities
-
Draw Your Favorite Thing:
Ask the student to draw their favorite thing. It could be a toy, an animal, or even a place they love. Encourage them to use lots of colors and details!
-
Story Time with Art:
After drawing, have the student tell a story about their picture. Ask questions like, "What is happening in your drawing?" or "Who is in your picture?" to help them elaborate.
-
Art Gallery Walk:
Set up a mini art gallery by hanging their drawings on the wall. Walk through it together and let them explain each piece to you. This will help them practice talking about their artwork.
Talking Points
- "What did you draw? Can you tell me about it?"
- "How does your drawing make you feel? Is it happy, silly, or something else?"
- "What colors did you choose? Why did you pick those colors?"
- "If your picture could talk, what would it say?"
- "What is your favorite part of your drawing? Why do you like it?"
