Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will explore the concepts of snow and ice through creative activities in art, music, movement, and science, fostering a love for learning and discovery.

Materials and Prep

  • White paper
  • Blue crayons or markers
  • Small container of water
  • Ice cubes (if available)
  • Space for movement (a large room or outdoor area)

Before the lesson, ensure the area is safe for movement and that the student understands the basic concept of snow and ice. Prepare the water container and ice cubes if available.

Activities

  • Snowy Art:

Using white paper and blue crayons, the student can create their own snowy scene by drawing snowflakes, snowmen, or winter landscapes. Encourage them to be creative and use their imagination!

  • Ice Exploration:

Let the student touch and observe the ice cubes in the container of water. Discuss how ice feels cold and hard, and watch as it melts into water. This can be a fun sensory experience!

  • Winter Movement:

Play a game where the student pretends to be snowflakes falling from the sky. They can twirl and sway gently as they "fall" to the ground. This encourages movement and imagination!

  • Snowy Songs:

Sing simple songs about snow and winter, like "I'm a Little Snowman" or "Frosty the Snowman." Encourage the student to clap or dance along to the music!

Talking Points

  • "Look at this white paper! Can you draw a snowman on it?"
  • "Feel this ice! It’s so cold! What happens when it melts?"
  • "Let’s pretend to be snowflakes! Can you twirl like a snowflake?"
  • "Can you sing with me? Snow is falling, falling down!"
