Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will have fun exploring basic math and science concepts through the creation of imaginary potions, enhancing their understanding of mixing colors, counting, and simple reactions.
Materials and Prep
- Water
- Food coloring (if available, or use imaginary colors)
- Clear cups or bowls (or imaginary containers)
- Small measuring cups or spoons (or pretend measuring tools)
- Paper and crayons for drawing potions
Before the lesson, gather all materials in a designated area. If using food coloring, explain how it can change the color of water. If not, encourage the student to use their imagination!
Activities
-
Color Mixing Potion:
Fill two clear cups with water and add different food colors to each. Let the student mix them together in a larger bowl to see what new color they create. Ask them to name their new potion!
-
Counting Ingredients:
Using small measuring cups, have the student count how many scoops of water or imaginary ingredients they want to add to their potion. This helps with basic counting skills!
-
Potion Drawing:
Let the student draw their favorite potion on paper. Encourage them to use lots of colors and to tell you what magical powers their potion has!
Talking Points
- "Look! When we mix these colors, what happens? Can you see the new color?"
- "How many scoops of water do we need? Can you count with me?"
- "What does your potion do? Can it make you fly or turn you into a frog?"
