Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will have a better understanding of key inventors from different decades, the inventions they created, and the materials used in those inventions. The student will also develop skills in research and presentation.
Materials and Prep
- Notebook or paper for notes
- Pencil or pen
- Access to a computer or tablet for research (if available)
- List of inventors and their inventions (can be provided by the teacher)
- Timeline template (can be drawn on paper)
Before starting the lesson, ensure the student understands how to conduct basic research online or in books. Prepare a list of notable inventors from various decades and their inventions to reference during the activities.
Activities
-
Inventor Research Project:
The student will choose an inventor from the provided list and research their life, the invention they are known for, and the materials used to create that invention. The student will take notes and prepare a short presentation to share what they learned.
-
Timeline Creation:
Using the information gathered, the student will create a timeline that highlights the chosen inventor's life and major milestones in their invention process. This visual aid will help the student understand the chronological order of events.
-
Invention Simulation:
The student will choose one invention and simulate how it works using everyday items they have at home. For example, if they choose the telephone, they can use cups and string to demonstrate how sound travels.
