Objective
By the end of this lesson, Gentry will understand the concept of the number 10 through fun activities using LEGO bricks. Gentry will be able to recognize the number 10, count to 10, and create groups of 10 using the LEGO bricks.
Materials and Prep
- An assortment of LEGO bricks (any colors and sizes)
Before starting the lesson, ensure that Gentry has a clear space to build with the LEGO bricks. It may be helpful to sort the bricks by color or size to make counting easier.
Activities
- Counting with LEGO:
Gentry will take 10 LEGO bricks and count them one by one. Encourage Gentry to say the numbers out loud as they count. This helps reinforce the concept of the number 10.
- Building a Tower of 10:
Using the 10 LEGO bricks, Gentry will build a tower. Ask Gentry to stack the bricks one on top of the other and count aloud as they build. This activity combines counting with a fun building exercise!
- LEGO Groups of 10:
Have Gentry create different groups of 10 using various colors of LEGO bricks. For example, 10 red bricks, 10 blue bricks, etc. This will help Gentry see that 10 can come in different forms.
- LEGO Patterns:
Gentry can create a pattern using 10 bricks (e.g., red, blue, red, blue). This will introduce Gentry to patterns while reinforcing the number 10.
