Objective
By the end of this lesson, Gatlin will be able to identify different aspects of winter, including weather, activities, and animals that are associated with the season. He will also engage in fun activities that enhance his understanding and appreciation of winter.
Materials and Prep
- Blank paper
- Colored crayons or markers
- Winter-themed storybook (if available)
- Access to a safe outdoor area (for a short winter walk)
Before the lesson, make sure to check the weather to see if it's a good day for a short outdoor activity. Prepare by gathering the materials listed above.
Activities
-
Winter Walk:
Take a short walk outside to observe the winter scenery. Ask Gatlin to look for things like bare trees, snow (if available), and any signs of animals. Encourage him to describe what he sees.
-
Winter Art:
Using the blank paper and crayons, have Gatlin draw his favorite winter scene. This could include snowmen, winter sports, or animals in the snow. Encourage him to use lots of colors!
-
Winter Storytime:
If you have a winter-themed storybook, read it together. Discuss the characters and what they do in winter. If no book is available, create a simple winter story together.
-
Winter Songs and Rhymes:
Sing some fun winter songs or nursery rhymes. You can make up silly winter songs together about snowflakes or winter animals.
