Objective
By the end of this lesson, Gatlin will understand the concept of rainbows, learn about the colors that make up a rainbow, and engage in fun activities that help him express his creativity while reinforcing his knowledge about rainbows.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Crayons or markers
- Water (for a simple experiment)
- A clear glass or cup
- A flashlight (optional)
Before the lesson, make sure to have a space set up for drawing and an area where you can safely conduct the water experiment. If using a flashlight, ensure it's easily accessible.
Activities
-
Rainbow Drawing:
Gatlin will use crayons or markers to draw a big rainbow on paper. Encourage him to think about where he sees rainbows and what colors he wants to include. After drawing, he can share his rainbow with you!
-
Rainbow Experiment:
Using a glass of water and a flashlight, Gatlin can create a rainbow! Shine the flashlight through the water and observe how the light bends and creates colors. This is a fun way to see how rainbows are formed!
-
Rainbow Song:
Teach Gatlin a simple rainbow song! You can create a fun tune together that includes the colors of the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. Singing will help him remember the colors!
