Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the basic concepts of community living, resource management, and creativity through the lens of the popular game Animal Crossing. They will also create their own imaginary village inspired by the game.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Colored pencils or crayons
  • A timer (optional)
  • A comfortable space to work

Before the lesson, it's helpful to have a brief discussion about the Animal Crossing game. Make sure the student knows about some of the characters and the general idea of running a village.

Activities

  • Create Your Villager:

The student will draw their own villager character. Encourage them to think about what clothes they would wear, what kind of personality they have, and what hobbies they enjoy. This helps to inspire creativity!

  • Design Your Village:

Using the paper, the student will sketch out their dream village. They can include houses, shops, and parks. Ask them to think about what makes a village fun and inviting.

  • Animal Crossing Bingo:

Create a simple bingo card with different items or characters from the game. As you call out items, the student can mark them off. This activity will help them recall what they know about the game while having fun!

  • Story Time:

Encourage the student to come up with a short story about their villager and their adventures in the village. They can share their story with you or even act it out!

Talking Points

  • "What do you think makes a village a nice place to live?"
  • "Can you tell me about your favorite character in Animal Crossing? What do you like about them?"
  • "What kind of things do you think villagers need to be happy?"
  • "How can we use our imagination to create something new? What would you add to your village?"
  • "Why do you think it's important to work together in a village?"
  • "What would you do if you met a new villager? How would you make them feel welcome?"
  • "Can you think of a fun adventure your villager could go on? What would happen?"
