Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to effectively pack their room for a move, organizing items efficiently and learning how to prioritize what to keep, donate, or discard. They will also understand the importance of labeling and creating an inventory for easy unpacking in the new space.
Materials and Prep
- Boxes (various sizes)
- Bubble wrap or old newspapers
- Markers for labeling
- Sticky notes
- Trash bags
- Notebook and pen for inventory
Before the lesson, ensure that the student has a designated area to start packing and that they have access to all their belongings. Discuss any sentimental items that may need special consideration when packing.
Activities
-
Sorting Challenge:
Have the student go through their belongings and categorize them into three piles: Keep, Donate, and Trash. Set a timer for 30 minutes to make it a fun challenge and encourage quick decision-making.
-
Creative Packing:
Let the student creatively pack one box, using bubble wrap or newspaper to protect fragile items. Encourage them to think about how to maximize space and protect their belongings at the same time.
-
Labeling Game:
Once the boxes are packed, have the student label each box with its contents and the room it belongs in. They can create a fun color-coding system for different categories like clothes, books, and toys.
-
Inventory List:
Ask the student to create an inventory list of all the items in one box. This will help them keep track of their belongings and make unpacking easier in the new home.
