Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and identify different facial features such as eyes, nose, mouth, and ears, while also learning to express emotions through facial expressions.
Materials and Prep
- No materials needed; just your voice and the student!
- Be prepared to make silly faces and express emotions to engage the student.
Activities
-
Face Parts Song: Sing a simple song about face parts. Use hand motions to point to your own face and the student's face as you sing. For example, "Head, shoulders, knees, and toes" can be adapted to "Eyes, nose, mouth, and ears!"
-
Silly Faces Game: Take turns making silly faces. Encourage the student to copy your expressions. You can say, "Can you make a happy face? How about a surprised face?"
-
Mirror Play: Sit in front of a mirror with the student. Point to your face and the student's face, saying the names of the parts. For example, "Look at your nose! It’s so cute!"
-
Emotion Charades: Make different facial expressions to show emotions like happy, sad, and surprised. Encourage the student to guess the emotion. You can say, "What face is this? Is it happy or sad?"
Talking Points
- "Look at my eyes! Can you see them? Where are your eyes?"
- "This is my nose! Can you touch your nose?"
- "Open your mouth wide! Can you say 'ahhh'?"
- "What do you think this face is? Is it happy or sad?"
- "We have ears! Can you point to your ears?"
