Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will have a better understanding of the solar system, including the planets, the sun, and other celestial bodies. They will engage in fun activities that spark their imagination and curiosity about space!
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Pencil or crayons
- Access to a clock or timer
- Open space for movement (like a backyard or living room)
Before the lesson, make sure to find a quiet space where the student can focus and have fun. It’s also helpful to have some space-themed music ready to play during activities!
Activities
-
Planet Drawing:
The student will draw their favorite planet and write three fun facts about it. Encourage creativity with colors and designs!
-
Space Dance Party:
Put on some space-themed music and have a dance party! The student can pretend to be different planets moving around the sun.
-
Solar System Relay Race:
Set up a relay race where the student has to run to different "planets" (you can mark spots with objects) and share one fact about each planet they reach.
Talking Points
- "Did you know that the sun is a star? It’s the center of our solar system!"
- "There are eight planets in our solar system. Can you name them all?"
- "The Earth is the only planet we know of that has life on it!"
- "Planets orbit the sun in paths called orbits. How fast do you think they move?"
- "Jupiter is the biggest planet. It's so big that you could fit all the other planets inside it!"
- "Mars is known as the Red Planet because of its reddish appearance. What do you think it would be like to visit Mars?"
- "Saturn has beautiful rings made of ice and rock. Would you like to see them up close?"
- "Space is very big and mostly empty. It’s like a huge playground where planets and stars play!"
