Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify different animals and their homes, understand the concept of habitats, and express their thoughts creatively through drawing and storytelling.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Crayons or markers
- A comfortable space for storytelling and activities
Before starting the lesson, think about the animals your student loves. Prepare to discuss these animals and their homes, like a dog’s house or a bird’s nest.
Activities
-
Animal Home Drawing:
Ask the student to draw their favorite animal and its home. Encourage them to think about what the home looks like and what the animal needs to live there.
-
Animal Sounds Game:
Play a game where you make animal sounds and the student guesses which animal it is. After guessing, talk about where that animal lives.
-
Storytime Adventure:
Read a short story about animals and their homes. After reading, ask the student to share their favorite part and why they liked it.
-
Animal Habitat Match:
Discuss different types of habitats (like forests, oceans, and deserts) and ask the student to name animals that live in each. You can create a simple matching game by asking them to match animals to their habitats verbally.
Talking Points
- "Can you tell me what your favorite animal is?"
- "Where does that animal live? What is its home like?"
- "What sounds does that animal make? Can you show me?"
- "Why do you think that animal likes its home?"
