Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to successfully complete animal and dinosaur puzzles. They will develop problem-solving skills, enhance hand-eye coordination, and learn interesting facts about the animals and dinosaurs featured in the puzzles.
Materials and Prep
- Animal puzzles (e.g., farm animals, jungle animals)
- Dinosaur puzzles (e.g., T-Rex, Triceratops)
- A flat surface to work on (like a table or floor)
Before starting the lesson, ensure that all puzzles are complete and ready to be put together. It might be helpful to have a few fun facts about each animal and dinosaur ready to share during the activities.
Activities
-
Puzzle Time!
Start by choosing one puzzle to work on. Encourage your student to find the edge pieces first and then work their way in. Celebrate each piece they fit together!
-
Animal and Dinosaur Facts
As your student puts together the puzzles, share interesting facts about the animals and dinosaurs. For example, "Did you know that a T-Rex could run as fast as a car?"
-
Mix and Match Challenge
After completing a puzzle, mix the pieces of two different puzzles together and challenge your student to sort them out and complete each one again!
Talking Points
- "What animal is this? Can you make the sound it makes?"
- "Look at the colors! Which piece do you think goes here?"
- "Did you know dinosaurs lived millions of years ago? Which one is your favorite?"
- "Great job! You found the corner piece! That’s so smart!"
- "How many pieces are left? Can we count them together?"
