Objective

  • Imaginary tools (like a toy screwdriver or wooden blocks to represent tools)

Before the lesson, familiarize yourself with the assembly instructions and ensure you have a designated workspace for the student to work on their project.

Activities

  • Reading the Instructions: Start by reading the assembly instructions together. Discuss the importance of following directions carefully.

    • This activity helps the student learn how to read and understand instructions. You can ask questions like, "What do you think we need to do first?"

  • Part Identification: Look at the parts listed in the instructions and find imaginary versions of them using blocks or toys.

    • This will help the student recognize different parts of furniture and understand their functions. You can say, "Can you find the legs of our table? What do they do?"

  • Assembly Simulation: Using their imaginary tools, have the student pretend to assemble the furniture by following the steps in the instructions.

    • This encourages creativity and gives a hands-on experience without any real tools. Ask them, "How do you think we can make this stable?"

  • Design Your Own Furniture: Have the student sketch their own piece of furniture and describe how they would assemble it.

    • This activity promotes creativity and critical thinking. You can prompt them with, "If you could make any piece of furniture, what would it look like?"
