Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will have created a digital travel magazine layout that showcases their favorite travel destinations. This project will help develop skills in digital design, layout composition, and creative writing.
Materials and Prep
- Computer or tablet with internet access
- Graphic design software (such as Canva, Adobe Spark, or any free online design tool)
- Access to travel images (stock photo websites or personal photos)
- Notebook or digital document for brainstorming and planning
Before the lesson, ensure the student has access to the necessary software and is familiar with basic navigation of the design tools.
Activities
-
Destination Brainstorming
The student will spend time brainstorming and selecting 3-5 travel destinations they want to feature in their magazine. They can write down what they love about each place and why it deserves to be highlighted.
-
Research and Content Creation
Once the destinations are chosen, the student will research interesting facts about each location. They will write short articles or descriptions to accompany the images they will use in their magazine.
-
Designing the Layout
The student will use their chosen graphic design software to create the magazine layout. They will experiment with different templates, fonts, and color schemes to find the best way to present their travel stories visually.
-
Peer Review and Feedback
If possible, the student can share their design with family members or friends for feedback. They should consider how to incorporate constructive criticism to improve their magazine.
