Objective

By the end of this lesson, Leslyne will understand the purpose of journaling and how to express her thoughts and feelings through writing. She will learn to create engaging journal entries that reflect her personal experiences, ideas, and creativity.

Materials and Prep

  • A notebook or loose sheets of paper
  • A pen or pencil
  • A quiet space to write
  • Optional: colorful markers or stickers for decoration

Before starting the lesson, ensure that Leslyne has a comfortable and quiet space to write. Encourage her to think about her interests and experiences as we explore the art of journaling.

Activities

  • Brainstorming Session

Start with a brainstorming session where Leslyne can jot down topics she is interested in writing about. This can include her favorite hobbies, recent experiences, or even her dreams. Encourage her to think freely and write down any idea that comes to mind.

  • Daily Journal Entry

Leslyne will write a daily journal entry about something that happened during her day. She can describe her feelings, thoughts, and observations. Remind her to use descriptive language to make her entry more engaging.

  • Creative Writing Prompt

Provide Leslyne with a creative writing prompt, such as “If I could have any superpower, it would be…” and have her write a journal entry based on that prompt. This activity will encourage her to use her imagination and develop her writing skills.

  • Reflect and Share

After completing her entries, Leslyne can choose one to share with you. This will help her practice expressing her thoughts verbally and receiving feedback on her writing. Encourage her to explain why she chose that particular entry.
