Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to read and comprehend a short story about going for a scooter ride.

Materials and Prep

  • A book or story about going for a scooter ride

Activities

  • Read the story together: Start by introducing the book or story about going for a scooter ride. Ask the student to look at the cover and predict what the story might be about. Read the story aloud, pointing to the words as you go along. Encourage the student to ask questions or make comments during the reading.
  • Retell the story: After reading the story, ask the student to retell the main events in their own words. This will help reinforce their comprehension and sequencing skills.
  • Identify key words: Choose a few key words from the story, such as "scooter," "ride," or "fun." Write these words on separate pieces of paper or index cards. Mix them up and ask the student to match each word to the corresponding picture in the story.
  • Create a story map: Draw a simple story map on a piece of paper or whiteboard. Label the different parts of the story (beginning, middle, end) and ask the student to draw or write a sentence about what happened in each part.
  • Write a sentence: Encourage the student to write a simple sentence about going for a scooter ride. Provide them with a sentence starter, such as "I went for a scooter ride and..." and assist them as needed.
