Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to construct simple sentences using "I have" to express ownership of various objects. The student will also practice speaking and listening skills through fun activities and games.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper and crayons or markers for drawing.
  • A list of common objects (toys, food items, animals) that the student can relate to.
  • Optional: a mirror for practicing speaking.

Before the lesson, think of some objects that your student loves or is familiar with. This will make the activities more engaging!

Activities

  • Show and Tell: Ask the student to gather 3-5 of their favorite toys or objects. For each item, they will say, "I have a toy car," or "I have a teddy bear." Encourage them to show the object while speaking.

  • Drawing Time: Have the student draw pictures of things they have at home, like "I have a cat" or "I have a bike." Once they finish, they can present their drawings and say, "I have..." for each one.

  • Memory Game: Play a memory game where you say, "I have a..." and name an object. The student then has to repeat it back and add their own object. For example, "I have a ball, and I have a doll."

  • Story Time: Read a short story that includes "I have" sentences. After reading, ask the student to recall what the characters had using "I have" sentences.

Talking Points

  • "What do you have?" - This helps the student practice asking questions.
  • "I have a..." - Encourage them to complete the sentence with their own words.
  • "Can you show me what you have?" - This encourages interaction and engagement.
  • "Let’s talk about what we have at home!" - This opens up the conversation about their belongings.
  • "I have fun with my friends!" - A useful phrase that connects ownership with experiences.
