Materials Needed:

  • Pencil or crayons
  • Paper (plain and lined)
  • Optional: One Piece character pictures (printed beforehand, if available, just for reference)

Get Ready, Future Pirate King!

Ahoy, matey! Today, we're going on a reading adventure inspired by Luffy and his dream to become the King of the Pirates in One Piece! We'll read about adventure, answer questions, and learn about what makes a character special.

Reading Treasure Map

Read this short story about a young adventurer named Luffy:

Monkey D. Luffy is a young boy with a big dream. More than anything, he wants to become the King of the Pirates! To do this, he needs to find the greatest treasure in the world, called the One Piece. Luffy is not an ordinary boy. He ate a special fruit called the Gum-Gum Fruit, which made his body stretchy like rubber! Luffy is very brave and happy. He loves his friends, who are called his crew. Together, they sail the seas on a ship, looking for adventure and getting closer to the One Piece. Luffy always wears his favorite straw hat. He never gives up on his dream!

Treasure Hunt Questions

Let's check if you found the clues! Answer these questions on your lined paper:

  1. Who is the main character in the story?
  2. What is Luffy's big dream?
  3. What special ability does Luffy have?
  4. What does Luffy wear on his head?
  5. Where do Luffy and his crew sail?

Character Chest: What is Luffy Like?

Luffy has many 'character traits' - these are words that tell us what someone is like. Based on the story, what is Luffy like? Write down two words that describe Luffy. Some ideas might be: brave, happy, stretchy, determined (someone who doesn't give up), friendly.

Why did you choose those words? Talk about it!

Create Your Own Wanted Poster!

Pirates in One Piece often have 'Wanted Posters'! Let's make one for Luffy. On your plain paper:

  1. Draw a picture of Luffy (or just his straw hat!).
  2. Write his name: Monkey D. Luffy.
  3. Write ONE word below his picture that you think describes him best from our list (like 'Brave' or 'Stretchy' or 'Determined').
  4. You can add a pretend 'Bounty' number if you like, just for fun (like 100 Berries!).

New Crewmate Vocabulary

Let's learn some words from our adventure:

  • Dream: Something you really want to happen or achieve. (Luffy's dream is to be King of the Pirates).
  • Crew: A group of people who work together, especially on a ship. (Luffy loves his crew).
  • Adventure: An exciting or unusual experience. (Sailing the seas is an adventure).
  • Brave: Ready to face danger; showing courage. (Luffy is very brave).
  • Treasure: Something very valuable, like gold or jewels, or the One Piece! (Luffy searches for treasure).

Try using one of these new words in a sentence!

Adventure Complete!
