Objective

By the end of this lesson, Sadie will learn about farm animals, their habitats, and the importance of farms in our ecosystem. She will also have fun engaging with the animals and participating in hands-on activities that enhance her understanding of farm life.

Materials and Prep

  • Notebook and pencil for taking notes
  • Camera or smartphone for taking pictures
  • Water bottle to stay hydrated
  • Comfortable clothes and shoes for walking around the farm
  • Sun protection (hat, sunscreen) if it's sunny

Before the lesson, make sure to check the weather and plan the visit to Big Goose Farm in Tyabb. Review the farm's website for any specific activities or guidelines.

Activities

  • Animal Observation:

Sadie will spend time observing different farm animals, such as ducks, goats, and chickens. She can take notes on their behaviors and sounds, and even sketch her favorite animal!

  • Feeding the Animals:

Sadie will participate in feeding the animals. This hands-on experience will allow her to understand what different animals eat and how to care for them.

  • Nature Scavenger Hunt:

We will create a scavenger hunt list of items to find around the farm, such as different types of leaves, feathers, or even eggs. This will encourage her to explore and engage with the environment.

  • Farm Tour:

We will take a guided tour of the farm, where Sadie can learn about the different sections of the farm, such as vegetable gardens and animal pens. She can ask questions and take notes during the tour.
