By the end of this lesson, the student will have a deeper understanding of the lives and works of famous artists throughout history. They will explore various artistic styles, learn about key historical contexts, and create their own artwork inspired by these artists.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Pencils and erasers
  • Colored pencils or crayons
  • Access to a quiet space for reflection and creativity
  • Basic knowledge of a few famous artists (e.g., Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Frida Kahlo)

Activities

The student will choose one famous artist to research. They can write down key facts about the artist's life, style, and notable works. This can be done in a simple chart format.

  2. Art Style Imitation:

After learning about their chosen artist, the student will create their own piece of art inspired by that artist's style. For example, they might use vibrant colors like van Gogh or geometric shapes like Picasso.

  3. Gallery Walk:

The student will display their artwork and explain the inspiration behind it. They can pretend to be a tour guide, sharing facts about their chosen artist and how it influenced their creation.
