Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will have a better understanding of turtles, including their habitat, history, and significance in art and culture. The student will create a fun turtle-themed art project and learn how to express their thoughts about turtles in writing.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper for drawing and writing
  • Colored pencils or crayons
  • Access to a computer or books for research (if available)
  • Space to work on art projects

Before the lesson, it might be helpful to gather some pictures of different types of turtles and learn a few fun facts about them. This will help inspire the art project and writing activities.

Activities

  • Turtle Art Project:

The student will create a colorful drawing of a turtle using colored pencils or crayons. Encourage them to think about the turtle's habitat and include elements like water, plants, and sand in their artwork.

  • Turtle Facts Research:

The student will research interesting facts about turtles. They can write down three fun facts they learn, focusing on the different types of turtles, where they live, and what they eat.

  • Turtle Story Writing:

The student will write a short story about a turtle's adventure. They can use their imagination to create a fun tale, perhaps about a turtle exploring the ocean or making new friends.
