Objective

By the end of this lesson, Hope will be able to build a creative structure using her Lego set. She will learn to follow simple instructions, explore her imagination, and develop fine motor skills while having fun!

Materials and Prep

  • 1 Building UP Lego set
  • Flat surface to build on (like a table or floor)
  • Optional: A timer (to make it a fun challenge)

Before starting, make sure all Lego pieces are sorted and easy to access. Explain to Hope that we will be building something amazing together!

Activities

  • Introduction to Lego Building

Start by showing Hope the different pieces in her Lego set. Talk about the colors and shapes, and ask her what she thinks she can build with them. This will spark her imagination!

  • Follow the Instructions

Use the instruction manual (if available) to build a simple structure together, like a small house or car. Encourage her to follow the steps and help her when needed.

  • Creative Building Time

Now it’s time for Hope to use her imagination! Give her 15-20 minutes to build whatever she wants. Encourage her to talk about her creation and what it is.

  • Show and Tell

Once she’s done building, have a little "show and tell" where she can explain her creation to you. Ask her questions about what she made and why!

Talking Points

  • "Look at all these colorful pieces! What do you think we can build together?"
  • "Let’s follow the steps in the instructions. Can you help me find the next piece we need?"
  • "Wow! You’re doing such a great job! What do you like most about your creation?"
  • "Can you tell me a story about what your Lego building is? Who lives there?"
  • "Building with Legos helps us use our imagination. What else could we build next time?"
  • "You did an amazing job! Remember, every builder starts with one piece at a time!"
