Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will have a clear understanding of what a scissor keeper is, its importance in organizing scissors, and how to create a simple scissor keeper using basic techniques.

Materials and Prep

  • Scissors (the main item of focus)
  • Cardboard or thick paper (to create the scissor keeper)
  • Markers or crayons (for decoration)
  • Ruler (for measuring)
  • Pencil (for marking measurements)
  • Glue or tape (for assembly)

Before the lesson, make sure the student understands how to safely use scissors and has a clear workspace to avoid any accidents.

Activities

  • Introduction to Scissors:

Start with a brief discussion about different types of scissors and their uses. Ask the student to identify scissors they have at home and what they are used for.

  • Designing the Scissor Keeper:

Guide the student to design their own scissor keeper on cardboard. Encourage them to think about how many pairs of scissors they want to store and the layout of the keeper.

  • Building the Scissor Keeper:

Once the design is complete, assist the student in measuring and cutting the cardboard pieces. Help them assemble the pieces using glue or tape, ensuring it is sturdy and functional.

  • Decorating the Keeper:

After assembly, let the student use markers or crayons to decorate their scissor keeper. They can personalize it with their name or fun designs to make it unique.

  • Reflection Activity:

Finally, have the student reflect on what they learned about scissors and organization. They can write a short paragraph or share verbally about the importance of keeping tools organized.
