Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will learn how to make a simple sandwich. They will understand the steps involved in preparing a sandwich and gain confidence in their ability to create their own food using basic ingredients.

Materials and Prep

  • Bread (two slices)
  • Spread (such as butter, mayonnaise, or peanut butter)
  • Filling (like cheese, ham, or jelly)
  • A clean surface to work on
  • A butter knife or a plastic knife (for safety)
  • A plate to serve the sandwich on

Before starting, make sure to wash your hands and set up a clean workspace. Discuss any allergies with the student to keep them safe while choosing fillings.

Activities

  • Sandwich Storytime: Read a fun story about a character who makes a sandwich. Ask questions about the story to engage the student.
  • Ingredient Exploration: Show the different ingredients you have. Let the student touch and smell each item, discussing their colors and textures.
  • Step-by-Step Sandwich Making: Guide the student through the sandwich-making process, letting them spread, layer, and assemble their sandwich.
  • Sandwich Art: Encourage the student to create a funny face or shape with the sandwich ingredients before putting it together.
  • Taste Test: After making the sandwich, have a taste test! Discuss what they like about it and what they might try next time.
