Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the basics of hair care and beauty, including how to maintain healthy hair, basic hairstyling techniques, and the importance of personal grooming. The student will also create a simple hair care routine and practice styling techniques.

Materials and Prep

  • Comb or brush
  • Hair ties or clips
  • Mirror
  • Water spray bottle
  • Hair products (like shampoo, conditioner, and styling gel, if available)
  • Notebook and pen for notes

Before the lesson, ensure the student has access to a mirror and a comfortable space to practice hairstyling. Discuss any hair products they may already have and their purpose.

Activities

  • Hair Care Routine Creation:

    Guide the student in creating a personalized hair care routine. Discuss the importance of washing, conditioning, and styling hair, and help them decide how often they should wash their hair based on their hair type.

  • Basic Hairstyling Techniques:

    Teach the student basic hairstyling techniques such as braiding, ponytails, and simple updos. Encourage them to practice these styles on themselves or a mannequin head if available.

  • Hair Product Experimentation:

    If hair products are available, have the student experiment with different products. Discuss how each product affects hair texture and style, and encourage them to choose their favorites.

  • Personal Grooming Discussion:

    Engage the student in a discussion about the importance of personal grooming. Talk about how grooming can boost confidence and self-esteem.
