Welcome to Middle-earth, Student!
Today, we're going on an adventure with words, inspired by The Lord of the Rings!
1. Journey Warm-Up (5 minutes)
Let's talk about journeys! Frodo went on a big journey. Have you ever been on a journey, maybe a trip somewhere fun? Where did you go? Who did you go with? Let's name Frodo's home: The Shire!
2. Magical Words (10 minutes)
Middle-earth has special words. Let's learn some! Show or write these words: hobbit, journey, brave, ring, elf, dwarf. Read them together. What do they mean? Can you draw a picture for one of the words? Maybe draw a hobbit hole or a shiny ring!
3. Describing a Hero: Frodo (15 minutes)
Think about Frodo Baggins. What is he like? Let's brainstorm some words together. Is he big or small? Is he mean or kind? Is he scared or brave? (Guide towards words like: small, kind, brave, important).
Now, draw a picture of Frodo. Around your picture, write some words that describe him. Let's try writing one sentence together like: "Frodo is a brave hobbit." You can write your own sentence too!
4. Story Time: Leaving the Shire (10 minutes)
(Read a very simple version or tell the story of Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin deciding to leave the Shire with the Ring).
Let's ask some questions:
- Who is the main hobbit leaving the Shire? (Frodo)
- Who goes with him? (Sam, Merry, Pippin)
- What important thing are they carrying? (The Ring)
- Why do you think they need to be brave?
5. Create Your Fellowship Passport (15 minutes)
Imagine you are joining the Fellowship! Take a piece of paper and fold it like a little book. On the front, write "My Fellowship Passport" and your name. Inside, draw a picture of yourself ready for adventure! Write down one place you want to visit in Middle-earth (like Rivendell, the home of the elves, or the Mines of Moria, where dwarves lived). Write one word that describes how you will be on your journey (e.g., helpful, careful, brave).
6. Adventure Wrap-up (5 minutes)
Great work today, adventurer! What was your favorite part? Can you remember two new words we learned? You did a fantastic job exploring words and characters from Middle-earth!
