Mixed-Media Monster Mash-Up!

Get Ready (5 mins)

Let's talk about monsters! Are they scary? Silly? Friendly? What makes a monster look unique? Maybe they have bumpy skin, fuzzy fur, shiny scales, or lots of eyes! Today, you get to invent your very own monster using lots of different materials.

Explore Your Materials (10 mins)

Look at all the cool stuff we have: colorful paper, pieces of old magazines with interesting pictures or patterns, soft fabric scraps, fuzzy yarn, and maybe even some googly eyes! Touch everything. How does it feel? Rough? Smooth? Bumpy? Soft? Which colors and textures do you like best for your monster?

Create Your Creature (25-30 mins)

1. Choose Your Base: Pick a piece of sturdy paper. This will be the background where your monster lives.
2. Shape the Body: Think about your monster's main shape. Will it be round, square, wiggly? Cut or tear paper to make the body shape and glue it onto your base paper.
3. Add Features & Textures: Now for the fun part! Use all the different materials to add details.
Ideas:
* Cut yarn for fuzzy hair or stripes.
* Use fabric scraps for textured skin or clothes.
* Cut shapes from magazines for eyes, mouths, noses, spots, or scales.
* Layer different papers for cool effects.
* Don't forget arms, legs, tails, horns, or wings if you want!
* Add googly eyes for extra fun.
4. Glue Everything Down: Carefully arrange your pieces first, then use the glue stick to attach everything securely. Remember, less is sometimes more with glue!

Monster Show & Tell (5 mins)

Wow, look at your amazing creation! Tell me about your monster. What's its name? Is it friendly or mischievous? Point out the different materials you used. Which texture is your favorite part?

Clean-Up Time (5 mins)

Let's carefully put away our supplies and tidy up our art space.
