My Awesome Story Scrapbook Page!

Let's Talk About Stories! (5-10 minutes)

Hello Super Scrapbooker! Do you like stories? What's your favorite story about YOU? Maybe it's about your birthday, a fun day at the park, or your favorite toy! Stories help us remember special times. Today, we're going to make a special page to tell one of YOUR stories!

What is a Scrapbook? (5 minutes)

Imagine a book that's like a treasure chest for your memories. That's kind of what a scrapbook is! It's a special book where you keep pictures, drawings, and little notes about important and fun things in your life. Each page can tell a little story. It's a way to look back and smile at all the wonderful things you've done and seen!

Let's Plan Our Page! My Special Story (10 minutes)

What story do you want to tell on your scrapbook page today? Let's brainstorm some ideas:

  • A favorite holiday?
  • Your best friend?
  • A cool animal you saw?
  • Something funny that happened?
  • Your favorite food or toy?

Once you pick your story, think about what pictures or drawings would help tell it. What colors remind you of your story?

Gather Your Treasures! Picture Hunt! (5-10 minutes)

Now, let's find the things we need for your story page:

  • Find 2 or 3 photos that go with your story. (Or, if you like, you can draw pictures for your story!)
  • Pick a big piece of paper for your background. What color feels right for your story?

We'll also get our scissors, glue, stickers, and colorful pens ready!

Time to Create! Let's Make Magic! (20-30 minutes)

This is the super fun part! Let's build your scrapbook page step-by-step:

  1. Choose Your Background: Lay your big piece of paper flat. This is your canvas!
  2. Place Your Pictures/Drawings: Before you glue, try moving your pictures or drawings around on the page. Where do they look best? Do they tell the story in the right order? Once you like how they look, carefully glue them down. (Ask for help with glue if you need it!)
  3. Add Some Words (Optional): Do you want to write a word or a short sentence about your page? Maybe the date, or what's happening in the picture? You can write it yourself or ask a grown-up to help you write it. You can write on a small piece of paper and glue it on, or write directly on your page.
  4. Decorate! Decorate! Decorate!: Now for the sparkle! Use your stickers, crayons, markers, or colored paper scraps to make your page even more special. You can draw borders, add sparkly stars, or cut out fun shapes. Make it YOU-nique!

Remember to use your scissors carefully if you're cutting things out. Ask a grown-up for help if something is tricky!

Show and Tell! My Amazing Page! (5-10 minutes)

Wow! Look at your fantastic scrapbook page! Now it's time to share it. Can you tell me the story of your page? What's your favorite part about it? Why did you choose those colors or stickers?

(This is a great time to take a photo of the child with their creation!)

Tidy Time! (5 minutes)

Great job creating! Now, every good artist knows it's important to clean up. Let's put away our supplies: put caps back on markers and glue, throw away paper scraps, and put scissors in a safe place.

More Scrapbook Fun! (Extension Ideas)

Did you have fun? Here are more ideas for your scrapbook:

  • Make another page about a different memory!
  • Create a page about your family or pets.
  • Make a page with all your favorite things (favorite color, food, animal, game).
  • If you have a hole punch and some yarn, you can punch holes in several pages and tie them together to make a little book!

Keep telling your stories, Super Scrapbooker!
