- Play-Doh or modeling clay (optional)
- A whiteboard or large paper pad

Weekly Overview:
This week, Xander becomes a Pokémon Trainer learning the secret code of letters and words! Each day focuses on specific letters, sounds, and sight words, all tied into the exciting world of Pokémon.
Day 1: P is for Pikachu!
- Focus Letters/Sound: Pp /p/
- Focus Sight Words: see, pikachu
- Activities:
- Pokémon Intro: Look at Pokémon cards together. Focus on Pikachu. Say "Pikachu" slowly, emphasizing the /p/ sound at the beginning. Ask Xander what sound he hears at the start.
- Letter Hunt: Write uppercase 'P' and lowercase 'p' on the whiteboard. Have Xander find objects around the house that start with the /p/ sound (pencil, plate, pillow).
- Sight Word Flashcards: Write 'see' and 'pikachu' on index cards. Introduce 'see'. Say "I see Pikachu!" Use the card. Have Xander repeat. Practice reading the 'see' card. Show the 'Pikachu' card and practice saying the name.
- Poké-Craft: Draw or print a simple Pikachu outline. Have Xander decorate it, perhaps by gluing yellow paper scraps or coloring. While crafting, talk about the /p/ sound in Pikachu.
Day 2: B is for Ball!
- Focus Letters/Sound: Bb /b/
- Focus Sight Words: ball, go
- Activities:
- Sound Warm-up: Review the /p/ sound. Introduce the /b/ sound. Use a Pokémon card featuring a Poké Ball (or just draw one). Say "Ball" emphasizing the /b/ sound. Contrast /p/ and /b/ sounds (use hands in front of mouth to feel the air puff for /p/ but not /b/).
- Letter Match: Write 'B' and 'b' on separate cards. Hide them around the room. Have Xander find them and match the pair.
- Sight Word Action: Introduce 'ball' and 'go' on flashcards. Practice reading them. Play a simple game: Hold up the 'ball' card and pretend to throw a Poké Ball. Hold up the 'go' card and say "Go, Pikachu!" and have Xander run in place for a second.
- Play-Doh Letters: Use Play-Doh to form the letters 'B' and 'b'.
Day 3: C is for Catch!
- Focus Letters/Sound: Cc /k/ (hard c sound)
- Focus Sight Words: ash, run
- Activities:
- Sound Exploration: Review /p/ and /b/. Introduce the hard /k/ sound for 'C'. Use a Charmander card or picture. Say "Charmander" and "Catch" focusing on the /k/ sound.
- Pokémon Name Sort: Say different Pokémon names slowly (e.g., Caterpie, Clefairy, Bulbasaur, Pikachu). Have Xander clap if he hears the /k/ sound.
- Sight Word Story: Introduce 'ash' and 'run'. Write a simple sentence strip like: "See Ash run." Read it together, Cinder pointing to each word. Have Cinder read it. Rearrange flashcards ('ash', 'run', 'see') to make silly phrases ('run Ash see').
- Letter Collage: Look through old magazines or printouts for the letter 'C'/'c'. Cut them out and glue them onto a piece of paper to make a 'C' collage.
Day 4: S is for Squirtle!
- Focus Letters/Sound: Ss /s/
- Focus Sight Words: get
- Review Words: see, go, ball
- Activities:
- Sound Check: Review /p/, /b/, /k/. Introduce the /s/ sound using a Squirtle card. Say "Squirtle" and "see", emphasizing the /s/ sound. Make snake sounds.
- Sight Word Fishing: Write review words ('see', 'go', 'ball') and the new word 'get' on paper fish shapes. Attach paper clips. Make a simple fishing rod with a stick, string, and magnet. Have Xander 'fish' for a word and read it aloud. Ask him to use it in a simple sentence ("I get the ball.").
- Letter Tracing: Practice writing uppercase 'S' and lowercase 's' on the whiteboard or paper. Trace them in sand or salt in a tray if available.
- Sound Hunt Game: Say a sound (/p/, /b/, /k/, /s/). Have Xander point to the matching letter (written on cards).
Day 5: M is for Meowth & Review!
- Focus Letters/Sound: Mm /m/
- Review Words: All words from the week (see, pikachu, ball, go, ash, run, get)
- Activities:
- Mystery Sound: Introduce the /m/ sound using a Meowth card (if available) or just the sound itself. Ask, "What sound does Meowth like? Mmmm-eowth!"
- Word Wall Build: Write all the sight words learned this week on separate cards. Stick them on a wall or board to create a 'Pokémon Word Wall'. Practice reading them all.
- Pokémon Trainer Challenge: Give Xander simple commands using the sight words: "Get the ball." "See Pikachu." "Run, Ash, run!" "Go, ball, go!"
- Simple Sentence Building: Use the word cards and Pokémon picture cards to build simple sentences together (e.g., "See Ash." "Get Pikachu." "Run to ball."). Help Xander sound out simple CVC words if ready (e.g., 'cat', 'map' - maybe relate 'map' to Ash's journey).
- Celebration: Award Xander a "Pokémon Word Trainer" certificate (simple drawing is fine!). Review his favorite activity from the week.
Assessment Notes:
Observe Xander's participation and ability to identify the letter sounds during activities. Note which sight words he recognizes easily and which need more practice. Encourage attempts at sounding out, praising effort over perfection. Use the games as informal checks for understanding.
