Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand basic concepts of physics through playing with construction vehicles.
Materials and Prep
- Construction vehicles (toy trucks, bulldozers, excavators, etc.)
- A small tray or sandpit
- Various objects to use as obstacles (blocks, small cones, etc.)
- A flat surface to play on (table, floor, etc.)
Prior knowledge required: None
Activities
- Set up the small tray or sandpit as a construction site.
- Place the obstacles randomly on the construction site.
- Use the construction vehicles to navigate around the obstacles and complete different tasks, such as moving objects, digging, or pushing.
- Observe and discuss the movement and actions of the vehicles. Ask questions like: "What happens when the vehicle pushes a block?" or "How does the excavator dig a hole?"
- Encourage imaginative play and problem-solving by creating scenarios like building a road, clearing debris, or constructing a tower.
Preschool Grade Talking Points
- "Construction vehicles are special trucks and machines designed to help build and fix things."
- "They have big wheels and strong bodies to move heavy objects and work in tough places."
- "When a construction vehicle pushes an object, it can make it move."
- "Some construction vehicles have a big arm called an excavator. It can dig deep holes or move dirt."
- "Obstacles like blocks and cones make it more challenging for the construction vehicles to move around."
- "By using our construction vehicles, we can imagine and create different things, just like real construction workers!"
