The Red Rabbit and the Blue Bird: A Linking Memory Adventure!

Age: 2.5 years old (for T!)

Focus: Shichida Right-Brain Development, Linking Memory, Storytelling

Warm-up: Getting Our Brains Ready! (2-3 minutes)

Let's make our brains super strong today, T! We're going on an adventure with some special friends.

  • Sing a short, energetic song T enjoys, or do some simple stretches.
  • Show T the picture cards one by one casually, naming them: "Look, T! A red rabbit! A blue bird!" Generate excitement.

Let's Tell the Story! The Linking Memory Adventure (5-7 minutes)

Now, T, I have a very special story for you. We're going to use our amazing memory to remember what happens! Listen closely and watch the pictures.

  1. Introduce Card 1 (Red Rabbit): "Once upon a time, there was a fluffy RED RABBIT." (Show card, emphasize "RED RABBIT"). "The red rabbit loved to hop, hop, hop!" (Mimic hopping)
  2. Link to Card 2 (Blue Bird): "One day, the RED RABBIT looked up and saw a beautiful BLUE BIRD singing in a tree." (Show blue bird card next to red rabbit card, then focus on blue bird). "The blue bird had a special secret."
  3. Link to Card 3 (Shiny Key): "The BLUE BIRD flew down and showed the rabbit a SHINY KEY!" (Show key card next to blue bird). "What could this key open?"
  4. Link to Card 4 (Tall Tree): "The SHINY KEY was for a tiny door in a very TALL TREE." (Show tree card next to key). "The tree reached high up to the sky!"
  5. Link to Card 5 (Sparkling River): "Next to the TALL TREE was a SPARKLING RIVER." (Show river card next to tree). "The water went swish, swish, swish." (Make swishing sounds)
  6. Link to Card 6 (Yummy Carrot): "And guess what the RED RABBIT found by the SPARKLING RIVER? A giant YUMMY CARROT, just for him!" (Show carrot card next to river). "Crunch, crunch, crunch!" (Pretend to eat a carrot).

Parent Tip: Tell the story with enthusiasm and exaggerated expressions. Point to each card clearly as you introduce it and link it to the previous one. Use a rhythmic or sing-song voice.

Memory Time! Can We Remember? (3-5 minutes)

That was a great story, T! Now let's see if our super brain remembers our friends and their adventure!

  • Lay out the cards in a random order.
  • "T, can you find the RED RABBIT?" (Praise for finding it).
  • "What did the RED RABBIT see? A...?" (Prompt for BLUE BIRD, help T find the card).
  • "What did the BLUE BIRD have? A...?" (Prompt for SHINY KEY).
  • Continue for all cards, praising effort and correct identification/sequencing. "The SHINY KEY opened a door in the... TALL TREE!" "Next to the TALL TREE was the... SPARKLING RIVER!" "And by the SPARKLING RIVER, the rabbit found a... YUMMY CARROT!"
  • If T is able, try to retell the story together, with T pointing to the cards in order or saying the names. "First there was the RED RABBIT, then the BLUE BIRD..."

Creative Play & Extension (Optional, 3-5 minutes)

  • Act it out: Hop like the rabbit, fly like the bird, pretend to unlock a door, swish like the river, crunch a carrot.
  • Sound effects: Encourage T to make sounds for each item or action.
  • "Where is...?": Hide one card. "Oh no! The Blue Bird is hiding! Where did the Blue Bird go?" Make it a fun game.

Wrap-up: Great Job, Super Storyteller! (1-2 minutes)

You did an amazing job remembering our story today, T! The Red Rabbit and the Blue Bird had so much fun with you. Give your brain a big kiss for working so hard! High five!

We can tell this story again another time!
