Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to read and understand a short story about farm animals, and identify key words and phrases related to your interests in Roblox, dinosaurs, hot wheels, motorcycles, and soccer.

Materials and Prep

  • Pen or pencil
  • Blank paper or notebook
  • A selection of books or short stories about farm animals

Activities

  1. Warm-up: Start by asking the student about their favorite things, such as Roblox, dinosaurs, hot wheels, motorcycles, and soccer. Write down their answers on a piece of paper.

  2. Reading Time: Choose a book or short story about farm animals that incorporates some of the student's interests. Read the story aloud together, taking turns reading paragraphs or pages. Encourage the student to follow along with their finger as you read.

  3. Discussion: After reading the story, ask the student questions about the plot, characters, and any words or phrases related to their interests that they noticed in the story. Write down these words and phrases on the paper.

  4. Word Hunt: Give the student a pen or pencil and ask them to find the words and phrases related to their interests in the story. Encourage them to underline or circle these words as they find them.

  5. Writing Activity: Have the student write a short paragraph or story using as many of the words and phrases related to their interests as possible. This can be a creative story or a reflection on their favorite things.

  6. Sharing Time: Allow the student to share their writing with you or with a family member. Encourage them to read it aloud and discuss their favorite parts.
