Let's start with a big idea! Imagine you are an explorer and you've just discovered a brand new, uninhabited island. You get to start your very own country! Before anyone can move there, they need to know what your nation stands for. Let's brainstorm a few quick ideas:

  • What would you name your country?
  • What would be the most important rule? (e.g., "Everyone must be kind," or "Fridays are for creative projects only!")
  • What kind of feeling do you want people to have when they think of your country? (e.g., adventurous, peaceful, innovative?)

This quick chat gets the creative juices flowing and sets the stage for the main project.

3. Guided Exploration: The Building Blocks of a Nation (25 minutes)

Every nation expresses its identity through words and symbols. We're going to create the two most important ones for your new country.

Part A: The Power of a Proclamation

A proclamation is a powerful, official announcement. Let's look at a famous example, the first sentence of the U.S. Declaration of Independence: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

Notice the language. It’s strong, serious, and full of big ideas. Now, let's choose 3 core values for your country. These are the "big ideas" your nation is built on. Examples could be:

  • Courage & Exploration
  • Creativity & Innovation
  • Respect for Nature
  • Lifelong Learning
  • Community & Friendship

Once you have your three values, we'll work together to write the powerful opening sentence for your proclamation. For example: "Let it be known to all that the people of [Your Country's Name] are dedicated to the core values of Respect for Nature, Lifelong Learning, and Community."

Part B: A Symbol for the People - The Flag

Flags use colors and symbols to tell a story. Let's quickly look at the flag of Canada. The maple leaf is a famous symbol of the country's nature. The red might represent strength and the white might represent peace.

How can you show your country's values in a flag? Brainstorm together:

  • Colors: What emotions or ideas do colors represent? (e.g., Green for nature, yellow for happiness, blue for wisdom).
  • Symbols: What simple shape could represent your values? (e.g., A sun for innovation, a book for learning, a tree for nature).

4. Main Project: The Founder's Creative Tasks (60 minutes)

  2. Design Your National Flag:

    Using a digital tool like Canva or simply paper and markers, design the flag for your new country. Be ready to explain what your colors and symbols mean. Make it bold and memorable!

  3. Record Your Founder's Address:

    This is where you express your vision! Using a phone or webcam, record a short video (1-2 minutes long). In the video, you will act as the founder of your nation. Read your proclamation with energy and passion. At the end, proudly display your new national flag for the camera.

5. Presentation and Reflection (15 minutes)
