- Sing a song: Sing "Finger Family" (Daddy finger, Mommy finger, etc.), using your fingers to represent family members. Encourage your child to wiggle their fingers along with you.
- Talking Points: "Look! This is the Daddy finger. Where is Daddy? This is the Mommy finger. Where is Mommy?"
2. Body: Content & Practice
- Story Time (15 mins): Read a book about different families. Point to the characters and name them (e.g., "Look, that's the baby bear.").
- Main Activity 1: Family Photo Fun (30 mins) - (I do, We do, You do)
- I Do (Model): Pick up a photo. "This is a picture of Mommy. I love Mommy." Point to yourself or the person in the photo.
- We Do (Practice Together): Look at several family photos together. "Let's find the picture of Daddy. Yay, we found him! Who is this?" Guide them as they point.
- You Do (Independent Practice): Spread out a few photos. "Can you show me Grandma? Can you give the picture of [sibling's name] a little kiss?"
- Snack & Chat (20 mins): While having a snack, talk about family members. "What food does Daddy like? Does your brother like apples?"
- Main Activity 2: My Family Drawing (25 mins)
- Provide a large piece of paper and crayons. "Let's draw our family! This big circle can be Daddy. This one is Mommy." Let the child scribble and draw. It’s about the process, not the final product. Ask them to point to the different scribbles and tell you who they are. Write the names they say.
3. Conclusion: Clean-Up & Recap (15 mins)
- Recap: Look at their drawing together. "Wow! You drew our whole family! You showed me Mommy, Daddy, and you!" Give lots of praise.
- Formative Assessment: Ask, "Who loves you so much?" and point to family members in photos or the drawing. Success is the child pointing or naming a family member.
Differentiation
- Simpler: Focus on just one or two family members (e.g., Mommy and Daddy). Use high-contrast photos.
- Challenge: Introduce extended family members like cousins or aunts. Ask questions like, "What does Grandma like to do?"

- Main Activity 2: Hug Monster Game (25 mins)

3. Conclusion: Clean-Up & Recap (15 mins)
- Recap: "We learned that our family loves each other very much. We show it with hugs and making pretty hearts!" Hang up the heart art.
- Formative Assessment: Ask, "Can you show me how you give a hug?" Success is the child demonstrating a hug or another gesture of affection.
Differentiation
- Simpler: Focus just on the physical sensation of a hug. Use stickers instead of paint for less mess and easier fine motor control.

- Formative Assessment: Point to your house or a drawing of a house. "What is this?" Success is the child saying "home" or "house."
Differentiation
- Simpler: Use large, easy-to-stack blocks like Mega Bloks. Focus on the simple action of stacking to build, without worrying about what it looks like.

- Recap: "Our home has so many rooms! We eat in the kitchen and sleep in the bedroom."
- Formative Assessment: Ask, "Where do we go to sleep?" or "Where should we go to get a snack?" Success is the child moving towards or pointing to the correct room.
Differentiation
- Simpler: Focus on only two rooms, like the kitchen and bedroom. Use gestures and actions more than words.
- Challenge: Introduce more rooms (bathroom, living room) and objects within them (toilet, sofa, TV).

- Summative Assessment: "My Family & Home" Poster (25 mins)
- Get a large piece of paper. Say, "We learned all about our family and home! Let's make a big picture of everything we love."
- Have the child glue on a family photo, draw a picture of your house (or use a house-shaped cutout), and add the heart art from Day 2.
- Ask them questions as they work: "Who is in this picture? What room is your favorite?" This project combines all the week's themes.
3. Conclusion: Celebration & Recap (15 mins)
- Recap: Hold up the finished poster. "Look what you made! This shows our family, our home, and our love. And we learned that we are all great helpers!"
- Celebrate: Have a 2-minute "dance party" to celebrate a great week of learning about family and home.
Differentiation
- Simpler: The helping job can be as simple as dropping one toy in a bin. For the poster, focus on one element, like gluing a single photo.
- Challenge: Give them a two-step helping job. "First, put the blocks in the bin, then put the bin on the shelf." On the poster, encourage them to draw specific things they do with family members.
