Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and describe different types of apples, understand the concept of apple picking, and engage in basic reading activities related to apples.

Materials and Prep

  • A variety of apple books
  • Apple flashcards or pictures
  • A large piece of paper or a whiteboard
  • Markers or crayons

Activities

  1. Read an apple-themed book together: Start the lesson by reading an engaging book about apples. Encourage the student to actively participate by asking questions and pointing out different elements in the illustrations.
  2. Apple picking activity: Discuss the concept of apple picking and its connection to apples. Show the student pictures or flashcards of different types of apples. Have them pick their favorite apple and describe its color, shape, and taste.
  3. Apple tree drawing: Draw a simple apple tree on a large piece of paper or a whiteboard. Ask the student to help you add apples to the tree by drawing circles or using stickers. As they add each apple, encourage them to say the color or type of apple they are adding.
  4. Matching activity: Create simple flashcards with pictures of different apple-related items, such as an apple, a tree, a basket, and a worm. Mix them up and ask the student to match the pictures correctly. This activity helps reinforce vocabulary and visual recognition.
  5. Letter recognition: Introduce the letter 'A' and explain that it is the first letter of the word 'apple.' Practice tracing or writing the letter 'A' together, and encourage the student to say the sound it makes.
