- Paper and pencil
- Access to outdoor space with trees
Activities
- Take a walk outside and observe different trees in your surroundings. Pay attention to their size, shape, and color of leaves.

- Draw a picture of the tree and label its different parts (roots, trunk, branches, leaves).
- Research and find out what type of tree it is. Write down some interesting facts about that tree.
- Create a mini-presentation about your tree. Include your drawing, facts, and why you find this tree interesting.
Second Grade Talking Points
- "Trees are very important for our planet. They provide us with oxygen to breathe and help clean the air."
- "The roots of a tree help anchor it into the ground and absorb water and nutrients from the soil."
- "The trunk of a tree is like its backbone, providing support and carrying water and nutrients from the roots to the rest of the tree."
- "Branches grow out of the trunk and provide a place for leaves to grow. They also provide homes for birds and other animals."
- "Leaves are like the food factories of a tree. They use sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water to make food for the tree through a process called photosynthesis."
- "Different trees have different shapes, sizes, and types of leaves. Some trees have broad leaves, while others have needle-like leaves."
- "Trees also provide shelter for animals and help prevent soil erosion."
