No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.
Activities
-
Word Search:
Create a word search puzzle using fishing-related words. Include words like "fish," "bait," "hook," "reel," "boat," "catch," etc. You can use an online word search generator or create one by hand.
Print out the word search and solve it. Circle or highlight the words as you find them.
-
Spelling Bee:
Write down a list of fishing-related words on separate slips of paper. Include words like "angler," "lure," "net," "line," "fly," etc. Fold the slips and put them in a hat or bowl.
Take turns with a family member or friend being the "spelling bee master" and the "speller." The spelling bee master randomly selects a word from the hat and reads it aloud. The speller then tries to spell the word correctly. If they spell it correctly, they earn a point. If they spell it incorrectly, the spelling bee master gets a point.
Continue taking turns until all the words have been used or until you decide to stop. The person with the most points at the end wins!
