Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to read and comprehend a short passage about dinosaurs, identify key vocabulary words related to dinosaurs, and answer comprehension questions about the passage.
Materials and Prep
- Dinosaur books or online resources
- Pen or pencil
- Printed copies of the reading passage (can be handwritten if printing is not available)
- Worksheet with comprehension questions (can be handwritten)
Activities
- Introduce the topic of dinosaurs to the student. Show them pictures or read short descriptions of different types of dinosaurs. Encourage them to ask questions and share what they already know about dinosaurs.
- Provide the student with the reading passage about dinosaurs. Read it aloud together, pointing to each word as you read. Encourage the student to follow along with their finger.
- After reading the passage, ask the student to identify any unfamiliar words. Write these words on a separate piece of paper or whiteboard. Help the student sound out the words and discuss their meanings.
- Give the student the comprehension questions worksheet. Read each question aloud and ask the student to answer them using complete sentences. Encourage them to refer back to the reading passage for support.
- Review the answers to the comprehension questions together. Discuss any incorrect answers and provide additional explanations or examples if needed.
