Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand and apply basic arithmetic concepts, such as addition and subtraction, in a fun and engaging way using Disney princesses as a theme.

Materials and Prep

• Disney princess-themed flashcards or pictures
• A whiteboard or large paper
• Markers or crayons
• Counting objects (e.g., small toys, buttons, or coins)

Activities

1. Disney Princess Addition:

   Show the student a flashcard or picture of a Disney princess and ask them to count the number of princesses. Write the number on the whiteboard or paper. Then, show another flashcard or picture and ask the student to count the princesses again. Write the number below the first one. Finally, ask the student to add the two numbers together and write the sum. Repeat this activity with different sets of flashcards or pictures.

2. Princess Subtraction:

   Show the student a flashcard or picture of a group of Disney princesses and ask them to count the number of princesses. Write the number on the whiteboard or paper. Then, remove some princesses from the group and ask the student to count the remaining princesses. Write the new number below the original one. Finally, ask the student to subtract the second number from the first number and write the difference. Repeat this activity with different sets of flashcards or pictures.

3. Counting with Princesses:

   Use the counting objects (e.g., small toys, buttons, or coins) to create a set of objects. Ask the student to count the objects and write the number. Then, ask the student to choose a Disney princess and place that number of objects next to the princess. Repeat this activity with different numbers and princesses.
