Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to apply arithmetic skills in a fun and engaging board game activity.
Materials and Prep
- Board game of your choice (preferably one that involves counting and addition)
- Pen or pencil
Prior knowledge needed: Basic understanding of addition and counting.
Activities
- Choose a board game that involves counting and addition. Examples include Snakes and Ladders, Chutes and Ladders, or Candyland.
- Set up the game board and read through the rules together.
- Take turns rolling the dice and moving your game piece along the board.
- Whenever you land on a space, solve an arithmetic problem to determine your next move. For example, if you land on a space with a number 5, you could solve 3 + 2 to move forward 5 spaces.
- Continue playing and practicing arithmetic skills until someone reaches the end of the board and wins the game.
