Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to use Minecraft to learn about the Vikings and gain a basic understanding of their history, culture, and impact on society.

Materials and Prep

  • A computer or device with Minecraft installed
  • Access to the internet
  • Prior knowledge of how to navigate and interact within the Minecraft world

Activities

  1. Research the Vikings: Use online resources to gather information about the Vikings, including their history, lifestyle, and achievements.
  2. Create a Viking-themed world in Minecraft: Utilize the Minecraft creative mode to design and build a Viking village, complete with houses, a longhouse, a ship, and other structures that represent their culture.
  3. Explore Viking life: Navigate through your Minecraft Viking village and interact with the different elements you have built. Imagine yourself as a Viking and try to experience their daily activities, such as farming, fishing, and trading.
  4. Discover Viking artifacts: Use Minecraft's search and discovery features to find hidden Viking artifacts within your village. Research their significance and discuss their historical importance.
  5. Share and present: Take screenshots or record a video tour of your Viking village in Minecraft. Prepare a short presentation to showcase your creation and share the knowledge you have gained about the Vikings.
