Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to apply algebraic concepts to solve problems related to Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Pencil
  • Calculator (optional)
  • Prior knowledge of basic algebraic operations

Activities

  1. Create an Algebraic Expression

Think of a scenario related to Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage, such as buying concert tickets or purchasing merchandise. Write an algebraic expression that represents the total cost of the items you want to buy. Use variables to represent unknown quantities and include at least two different operations.

  2. Solve the Expression

Once you have your algebraic expression, solve it to find the value of the unknown quantity. Substitute appropriate values for the variables and simplify the expression using the order of operations. If needed, use a calculator to evaluate any numerical expressions.

  3. Interpret the Solution

After finding the solution to your algebraic expression, interpret the meaning of the result in the context of Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage. For example, if the solution represents the number of tickets you can afford, explain how many tickets you can buy and what that means for attending the concert.

Seventh Grade Talking Points

  • "Algebra is a branch of mathematics that deals with symbols and the rules for manipulating those symbols."
  • "In algebra, we use letters (variables) to represent unknown quantities and symbols (+, -, ×, ÷) to represent operations."
  • "Algebraic expressions are combinations of variables, numbers, and operations. They can be simplified and evaluated to find a solution."
  • "The order of operations (PEMDAS) helps us simplify algebraic expressions correctly."
  • "Solving an algebraic expression means finding the value of the unknown quantity by substituting values for the variables and simplifying the expression."
  • "Interpreting the solution means understanding what the solution represents in the given context and explaining its meaning."
