Materials and Prep

  • Paper and pencil
  • Coloring materials (crayons, colored pencils, markers)

No prior knowledge is required for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Start by discussing the Solar System with your student. Talk about the different planets, the Sun, and other celestial bodies. Use visual aids if available.

  2. Ask your student to write down the names of the eight planets in the Solar System. Encourage them to sound out the words and spell them phonetically.

  3. Review the correct spelling of each planet and have your student practice writing them neatly.

  4. Next, provide your student with a Solar System coloring page. Ask them to color each planet using the correct colors. While coloring, encourage them to spell the names of the planets aloud.

  5. Finish the lesson by playing a spelling game. Say the name of a planet and have your student spell it out loud. You can take turns with your student, challenging each other with different planet names.
