  • Pencils
  • Colored pencils or markers
  • Access to the internet or books about Spider-Man

No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Begin by discussing with the student their interest in Spider-Man and why they find the character appealing. Encourage them to express their thoughts and feelings about Spider-Man's visual representation.
  2. Introduce the concept of visual arts and explain that comic book illustrations are a form of visual art. Discuss the elements of art, such as line, shape, color, and composition, and how they are used in comic book illustrations.
  3. Using the materials provided, ask the student to create their own Spider-Man comic book panel or page. Encourage them to incorporate the elements of art discussed earlier. They can depict Spider-Man in action, create a new villain for him to face, or illustrate a memorable scene from a Spider-Man story.
  4. Once the student has completed their artwork, have them share and explain their creation. Discuss the artistic choices they made and how they used the elements of art to enhance their illustration.
