Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to apply arithmetic concepts to solve problems related to dolls.
Materials and Prep
- Paper and pencil
- Dolls (any type)
Activities
- Activity 1: Doll Collections
- Activity 2: Doll Measurements
- Activity 3: Doll Sales
Ask the student to organize their doll collection by different characteristics, such as size, color, or type. Then, ask them to count the total number of dolls in each category and write it down. Finally, have them calculate the average number of dolls per category.
Provide the student with a measuring tape and ask them to measure the height, width, and depth of a few dolls. Then, have them calculate the total volume of each doll by multiplying the three measurements together. Compare the volumes of different dolls and discuss any patterns or relationships that emerge.
Give the student a fictional scenario where they are selling dolls. Provide them with information about the cost of each doll and the number of dolls sold. Ask them to calculate the total revenue, total expenses, and profit made from the doll sales. Discuss different strategies to increase profit, such as reducing expenses or increasing the number of dolls sold.
