Activities
- Introduction to Music Theory (10 minutes): Start by discussing the basic elements of music theory, such as notes, rhythm, and melody. Explain how these elements come together to create a song.
- Exploring Melody (15 minutes): Guide the student in playing simple melodies on the piano using one hand. Encourage them to experiment with different sequences of notes and rhythms.
- Creating Chords (10 minutes): Introduce the concept of chords and their role in songwriting. Teach the student how to play basic chords on the piano and how to combine them with melodies.
- Composing a Song (20 minutes): Provide the student with blank sheet music or staff paper. Encourage them to use their knowledge of melody and chords to compose their own piano song. Offer guidance and support as needed.
- Sharing and Reflection (5 minutes): Have the student play their composed song for you or a family member. Discuss their creative choices and ask them to reflect on the process of songwriting.
