Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and locate different continents on a world map.

Materials and Prep

  • A world map or globe
  • Paper and coloring materials
  • Pencil

Activities

  1. Introduce the concept of continents by showing the student a world map or globe. Explain that continents are large land masses that are surrounded by water.
  2. Ask the student to identify and label the seven continents on the map or globe. Provide guidance if needed.
  3. Have the student color each continent with a different color to make them visually distinct.
  4. Play a game of "Guess the Continent" where you describe a continent's characteristics and the student tries to guess which one it is.
  5. Review the continents together and ask the student to point out each continent on the map or globe.

  • "Australia is a continent and a country at the same time. It is known for its unique animals like kangaroos and koalas."
  • "Antarctica is the coldest continent. It is covered in ice and is home to penguins."
